It was a subdued day in MysticLand. Scorch and Felix were gently snoring as they napped. Orak, meanwhile, was engrossed in a splendid book. Verum stared at the quiet Mystical dorm room and sighed. She went back to trying to world-gaze with her trusty crystal ball. But today, it refused to spin and bring her some news.
Verum yawned and said, “Come on crystal ball! The world is vast and chaotic. Something must be happening somewhere!”
At that moment, the crystal ball began glowing in a rather pretty shade of blue. Verum cheered and said, “Woohoo! It’s vaccine news.” But as the news became known to her, her perky expression dissolved into worry.
“That’s quite worrying,” said Verum, “Brazilians took to the streets to protest for the third time in the past few weeks. President Jair Bolsanaro’s government did not handle the Covid-19 pandemic well. That’s why Brazil lost at least 520,000 people to the virus.”
“I have a feeling there’s more to this,” said an interested Orak as he approached Verum.
“You’re right. And this part is what led to the protests,” replied Verum, “An inquiry into the Brazilian government’s response to the pandemic revealed a series of murky events. To continue Brazil’s vaccination program, the government had entered a $316 million deal to purchase 20 million doses of Covaxin, a vaccine manufactured by the Indian company Bharat Biotech. But there were irregularities in this deal.”
“Irregularities like what?” said a curious Orak.
