LAUREUS LAURELS FOR MESSI, FRASER-PRYCE

Felix was engrossed in an experiment with his plant children. Scorch appeared near the window and said, “Psst! I have exciting news about Lionel Messi, Felix.”

When Felix heard Messi, he stopped everything and flew out of the window. Felix squeaked, “Tell me, tell me, tell me.”

Scorch giggled and said, “The Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony was held a few days ago. Messi won the World Sportsman of the Year Award and sprint champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the World Sportswoman of the Year.”

“That is great news!” remarked Felix, “I haven’t heard of Laureus Awards. What is that?”

“Laureus Awards is a ceremony that happens every year,” began Scorch, “Players and teams receive awards for their contribution to their sport. It was first held in 2000 in Monaco. Since then, Laureus Awards are given to the most promising sports players worldwide.

The Argentina football team won the Team of the Year for their fantastic win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Other awards were given for Sportswoman of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year, Sportsperson with a Disability of the Year, Comeback of the Year, and Action Sportsperson of the Year.”

Felix beamed with pride! He inquired, “Who has the most number of Laureus Awards to date?”

“Scorch replied, “That credit goes to Roger Federer, the greatest tennis player ever. He has won five Laureus Awards. Serena Williams has the most awards – four – in the women’s category.

Felix was crazily flying hearing about Messi’s win. No one could stop him!
