“Whoa! This building is huge!” said Felix as they gazed at the massive World Bank building situated in Washington D.C., United States of America (USA).
“Indeed,” agreed Verum, “You got us here because…?”
“Just a few days ago, it was announced that Ajay Banga will be the next President of the World Bank. He will take charge from June 2,” Scorch shared.
“Tell us a bit about his background?” asked Felix.
“Ajaypal Singh Banga is an Indian-born American citizen. He was born in the city of Pune, Maharashtra,” Scorch started explaining, “Formerly, he served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of MasterCard (a global payment corporation) for over a decade. Currently, he is the vice chairman of General Atlantic (a global investing company). He was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2016, one of India’s highest civilian awards.”
“Incredible! What a journey. But I have a question: who elects the president of the World Bank?” replied Felix.
“A group of directors called the Executive Directors,” Scorch began, “They propose a person based on his/ her merit, capabilities, skills, and experience. After selection, the person will undergo a grilling interview taken by the Executive Directors.
That’s how Banga was selected. He will be the 14th President of the World Bank. He will hold the position for five continuous years. Banga will succeed David Malpass, who recently resigned early from the post.”
Banga is the first Indian-American person to be elected as the World Bank President.”
“What an achievement!” exclaimed Orak.
Felix and Scorch tried to sneak into the building. But it was late evening and Verum did not wish MysticLord to catch them wandering in the human world. Verum winked at Orak, who then caught Scorch and Felix, put them in the Tempus Machine, and took off to MysticLand.
