The Mysticals are in the empire of the dead today! As excited as Orak and Scorch were to see Les Catacombes de Paris, Verum and Felix were equally scared of visiting the world’s only underground ossuary.
An ossuary is a place that preserves the bones of dead people; in this case, the bones of millions of Parisians!
At the end of the 18th century, due to major health problems linked to the city’s many cemeteries, it was decided that all that was buried in the cemeteries be transferred here. Then in 1809, the catacombs were opened to the public to see … and admire! Rather than scary, it is quite pretty since the bones and skulls are neatly arranged as walls and centrepieces instead of being simply dumped in a corner.
Through the ossuary, the Mysticals saw stones engraved with gloomy messages written by renowned writers, and signs that say “Stop! Here is the empire of the dead” and “Not recommended for sensitive people and young children”!
