YOUTUBER RENTS CHOPPER FOR PHYSICS

“Felix, what are you doing?” said a stunned Verum when she saw Felix in a weird posture.

“I am trying to understand anatomy (study of the body and its structures),” replied Felix.

Right at the moment, Verum’s trusty crystal ball hummed and started spinning.

“Oh! News time!” said Verum and rushed towards the crystal ball.

Felix got out of the twisted posture, “What is it?”

“A man who runs a popular YouTube channel rented a helicopter (also called a chopper) to find the solution to an exam question asked in the physics paper in the United States (US) Olympiad,” paused Verum. In the meantime, Orak and Scorch had joined in too.

“Recently, YouTuber Derek Muller released a video on his channel showing how he tested the 2014 US Physics exam question number 19.
The US Olympiad is a high school physics competition. It is held to select the team that will represent the United States at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO),” said Verum.

Her crystal ball suddenly popped the video and Verum read out the remaining bit of the news. The Mysticals were watching the video.

In the video, Muller read out the question: “A helicopter is flying horizontally at a constant speed. A perfectly flexible uniform cable is suspended beneath the helicopter. Air friction on the cable is not negligible. Which of the following diagrams best shows the shape of the cable as the helicopter flies through the air to the right?” There are five multiple-choice answer options.
“I think it is B,” said Felix. The other Mysticals were still trying to understand the question.

“He lowered down a cable from the chopper along with a 20-pound kettlebell to see how it flies. He chose option D as the right answer. Then he attached a blue flag at the bottom – since it has no weight – and then he attached a bagged parachute to see what happened,” added Verum.

“Interesting. What is the correct answer then?” said Felix.

“I think the answer would change depending on what is attached to the end of the rope.  It could either be option B, C, or D,” Orak said.

“You’re right! He said the same thing,” said Verum clapping for Orak as he took a bow!
