BWF HALL OF FAME AND MET GALA

The Mysticals were doing their homework. Felix yawned and wanted to take a break. He said, “Scorch, what’s the recent update on sports?”

Scorch looked up, stretched her arms, squeezed her eyes shut and tried to recollect. After a short pause, she said, “Oh yes! I can think of these two interesting events. Two great badminton players, China’s Lin Dan and Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, have been elected to be inducted into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held later this month. Hall of Fame refers to an honour given to individual achievements in any sport and other fields.

The two are considered the greatest players. Chong Wei retired from badminton in 2019. He was the World No. 1 for a record-smashing 349 weeks! He was a 12-time champion in the Malaysia Open game and a 4-time All-England Open champion, a prestigious tournament in badminton.

Lin Dan retired one year later after Lee. He was a two-time Olympic Champion. He was also a 7-time All England Open champion and a 5-time World Champion.”

“That’s amazing! Kudos to the players! What about entertainment?” inquired Verum.

“The Met Gala! Touted as the world’s most glamorous fashion event, Met Gala was held in New York on May 1. The Met Gala or Met Ball is a fundraiser (collects money for a cause) for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

Famous actors, singers, stars, and industrialists are invited to the Met Gala. Over 600 people gathered for the event. The invitees and attendees dress up extravagantly at the Met Gala red carpet based on the year’s theme. This year’s theme was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”

“It has been a fun week for sports and entertainment,” remarked Orak, who was multitasking. He continued his homework and listened to Scorch’s news sharing.
