ITALY: THE LARGE GOTHIC CATHEDRAL

The Mysticals were at the Duomo of Milan today!

“It is so big!” said Felix in amazement.

“Then you won’t be surprised when I tell you that it is the largest Gothic cathedral in Italy and the third largest church in the world,” said Orak.

“Here’s another surprising part: it took almost 600 years to finish this cathedral! And we can see why – it has 3,400 statues, 135 marble spires, and 135 gargoyles. It was decided that the church would be built with Candoglia marble instead of the traditional Lombard brick, and for that, engineers, stone cutters, sculptors, and architects were hired from all around Europe,” said Verum.

Felix flew all the way up to the highest spire and asked, “What is this?”

“That’s the Madonnina, the golden statue of Mary. It is said to represent the heart and soul of the city,” explained Orak.

“Come on, let’s go inside. I hear it has 52 marble columns, stunning altars, and gorgeous stained glass windows,” said Scorch.

The Gifted Four had a great time.
