JAPAN HOSTS G7 SUMMIT

“What news, dear crystal ball?” Verum asked. The crystal ball spun around and words appeared on it amidst the swirly clouds.

“Japan hosted the G7 Summit 2023 between May 19 and 21,” Verum announced.

“G7?” Scorch looked confused.

“The G7 or the Group of Seven is an international body of seven countries namely, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan. The goal of the group is to discuss global issues such as climate change, economy, trade, and politics,” Verum informed.

“Interesting,” Orak noted.

“The leaders of the country gathered in Hiroshima city. The G7 also invites other nations to join the discussion. India, Australia, the Cook Islands, Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia were among the invited nations.

This time, the group also invited Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This invitation to Ukraine sent a strong message to Russia. Recap: Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 and the conflict is still on. Not just this, the G7 leaders also raised concerns about China,” Verum said.

“China? Why?” Felix said.

Verum answered, “For its policies. The members do not appreciate China’s economic, security, and trade policies. For example, China has applied trade restrictions on countries it was displeased with in the past. Many countries are dependent on China for trade. So, the G7 called for a policy named de-risking. They will look for new trade sources and protect their technology.

The G7 leaders also said that they won’t separate from China. Instead, they want the country to stick to international rules.”

“Sounds complicated,” Felix yawned.

“Let’s wait and see how it all works out,” Orak suggested. Verum nodded.
